The larger spot size allowed for a faster treatment speed. Infrared wavelengths are recognized as the most versatile wavelengths for hair removal.
The CoolGlideNd:Yag 1064nm is the first laser cleared by the FDA to permanently reduce hair in patients of all skin types (I-VI), those who are tanned or tanning, and patients who suffer from PsuedoFolluculitisBarbae (PFB- the ingrown bumps caused by shaving). While some technologies require the suspension of treatments during the summer months, the CoolGlide laser may be used year-round. Gold-plated copper cooling offers substantial cooling to promote comfort during the treatment.
How does it work?
The laser light is attracted to the melanin in the hair shaft. The hair absorbs the light energy, it is transferred to heat, and the heat will vaporize the hair shaft. If there is enough heat that is absorbed by the hair follicle, it will disable the process of regenerating a new hair. If not enough heat is absorbed to disable the new growth, these hairs will be altered, eventually growing finer and lighter.
What areas can be treated?
Hair that has some color to it can be removed from any area of the body.
What does it feel like?
A series of short snaps, somewhat like a rubber band snapping or slight heat sensation is experienced. Topical anesthesia is usually not required; however, an anesthetic cream may be applied to more sensitive areas if desired.
How many treatments will I need?
Usually 20% of the hair is in an active growth stage with each treatment. Melanin is abundant in this stage and is necessary for the laser to see for destruction. A series of six treatments is typically required to obtain adequate hair reduction. However, the number of treatments required for optimal long-term benefits depends on multiple factors: hair thickness, the area treated and your hair’s growth cycle.
